An Indian self-styled doctor identified as Muthupandi and three of his patients have reportedly died after drinking herbal medicine meant for treating diabetes.
The doctor and three of his patients are said to have died in a south Indian village while treating diabetes.
Officials revealed that the doctor had prepared an herbal medicine which he claimed could cure diabetes and hypertension. However it turned out to be fatal after they took the substance, AFP reports.
AFP reveals that another patient who also drank the concoction is presently in a grave condition at a government-run hospital.
The doctor reportedly prepared the mixture at his makeshift clinic in Alagappuram village in Tamil Nadu on Sunday.
“They were unconscious and vomiting and were shifted to hospital where four of them died,” said local police officer Muthiah.
The police officer revealed that Muthupandi first drank the herbal mix to prove its efficacy before passing it on to five of his patients from the village.
Government doctor Jasline Rajiah said viscera samples had been sent off for analysis at a laboratory to ascertain the cause of dead.
