An initial panic among residents of Igando in Lagos state on Friday, May 12 later ended in jubilation as men of the Nigeria police rescued a white man. After the operation that lasted almost two hours at the kidnapper’s den, officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and Special Anti-Robbery Squad found the white man tied up.
It was learnt that the police stormed the building and surrounded it, but the kidnappers had escaped by the time the operatives entered the building within the metropolis. Four AK47 rifles, two English pistols, 60 magazines and 5000 ammunition were part of the weapons discovered after the operation.
There are beliefs that the kidnappers got wind of the invasion of the police team and in their bid for escape, they left their weapons.
