The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), on Tuesday said 13 students remanded in Kirikiri Prisons, are not students of the institution. The students were arrested and remanded for protesting against the rustication of a blind student.
In a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information Unit, Toyin Adebule, UNILAG disowned the students.“University of Lagos, hereby states that the 13 students remanded by the court as reported by different newspaper tabloids and electronic publications to be UNILAG students are not students of the institution.
“These ‘students’ comprise rusticated students and some students from an institution in Ogun State. “Let us emphasise here that the rusticated students are requested to apply for re-admission after serving their punishment. Until re-absorption, they are not considered bona fide students of the university,” the statement read.
This comes a day after the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) issued a 24-hour ultimatum within which a Special Offences Mobile Court in Lagos should release the 13 students.
